Sugar and spice and everything nice......

So, after our ultrasound last week it appears we having a baby girl.  Her due date, for now, is still November 26, 2011.  I can't believe it, a girl!  I had thought a boy for the longest time, and then about 3-4 weeks ago I had a dream and the baby was a girl, so then I wasn't quite sure and figured maybe a girl, but I guess we had a 50/50 shot either way, right?  The lady that did the ultrasound gave us like a 16' roll of photos and a DVD.  I am so excited to watch the DVD.  If I can figure out how to post a video or photo here, then I will, shortly.

So, everyone, we're now coming up with baby girl names, decoration ideas, etc.  I am leaning toward the Banana Fish Sweet Sunshine bedding set, its on http://www.goores.com/, and its also pictured on the right.  Supposedly Kohl's has it as well, but it always says unavailable, so maybe not.  They have all the other accessories though, so it might work anyway.  I am shying away from too much pink.  What are your thoughts on the bedding set?

Ever changing goals

So, it seems that I am going to need to make some adjustments to my 33 by 33….well, at least timelines.  Goal 33 seems to be in the oven, so to speak, and will be joining us in November.  Because of the timing the training to run a 5K by Thanksgiving is obviously not in the works – primarily because our due date is 2 days after Thanksgiving and I doubt I’ll be running, or walking, a 5k right then.

However, we are leaning toward a Nautical theme for babies room - well, primarily if we have a boy.  No real ideas on a room for a baby girl.  Any ideas?

Let’s see, the goal to lose 40 lbs.  Well, I lost 10 my first trimester, but I don’t think that morning sickness actually counts as ‘weight loss’ so that will have to be rescheduled for ‘after delivery’.  My goal now is to not gain more than 25 lbs during the pregnancy.

Keith and I are on our way to becoming debt free.  We got rid of all the credit card debt and are now working on the car loans, and the one personal loan we have.  Hopefully sometime in 2012 either the personal loan or the Murano will be paid off.  Yay!

I don’t think that Skydiving is in my immediate future, nor do I think I’ll be trying it as a mom, but you never know.  We want our kids to be adventurous and try new things, so maybe skydiving will happen, once our baby is like 5 or something.  Lol, you never know.

We did take a trip to Disneyland in April with Gregory and Angela Turner (my cousin and his wife) and come to find out they’re due about a month behind us!  Congratulations guys, I’m so excited for our kids to grow up close friends.  Disneyland was a lot of fun; we saw the World of Color at California Adventure and went on pretty much all the rides, since it was Greg’s first time at Disneyland.  Or, I guess I should say THEY went on all the rides, I sat and waited for them for the most part.  I didn’t want to risk riding too many roller coasters and things with the baby on board.

Journal keeping is going rather well, well, most of the time.  Now I’m down to every couple of weeks, but I need to start recording my thoughts and feeling on the pregnancy on a daily basis I think. To remind myself of this time, because it flies by so fast!

Keith has been the one doing nice things for me lately.  Once the midwife put me on Zofran I could function, but for the 6 weeks or so before that I couldn’t cook, or stand up for more than like 20 minutes without vomiting, so Keith cooked and did the dishes.  He never complained and he just tells me to relax and take care of Pedro…that’s our womb name for the baby.

We’re also regularly purchasing silver from APMEX.  They’re a gold and silver retailer online.  The prices are often very good, and the quality is awesome.  We now have about a pound and a half of silver, all in either bars or coins.  The way things are currently going in the US, both economically and politically, you never know when you’ll need that backup….items with real value.

It's amazing the changes happening now in our lives.  Planning for the baby, unplanned expenses, just trying to be financially secure, but also trying to have fun and enjoy the whole pregnancy thing.  We still want to camp this summer with the family and we're going to Jared and Shastyn's wedding in Tahoe in September, but other than that we're trying to stick close to home.  I am trying to take maternity leave from the middle of November through the end of January, but we'll see how that goes.  Wow, the list goes on....I need to make a Will now.

Thankfulness - Week 3, better late than never

I am thankful for being inspired to try to do better every day; to be a better wife, a better person, to keep trying to keep my goals and not give up when I forget or have a bad day.  Being driven and motivated is something I am very grateful for, otherwise I would never get anything done.

I am grateful for the awesome Motorola Xoom Keith got me for my birthday.  It’s the coolest, most fun thing ever!  I can work on it, play games, browse the net, read books, take pictures or HD video (yes, HD), it’s just so cool!

Last, but not least, I am thankful for family and friends who love and support me.  I had my 30th birthday party on March 19th and I really appreciate everyone who came and who made it one of the best parties I’ve had in a long time.  Thank you and I love you all!

Thankfulness, week 2

This is week 2 of my list of things I’m thankful for.

1. I want to start with my husband: Keith is my best friend. He's my #1 fan.  From him, I get unconditional love and acceptance, and he always makes me feel like I'm special and loved.  I'm the luckiest girl in the world for having found him.
2.  Sunshine, doesn't it feel good? I know, too much isn't such a good thing, but, ooh, just to soak it up for a while, either outside or in a sunny window, is one of my favorite things.
3. Tents.  I love sleeping in them, not to mention that I love camping, period.  It's fun to try out a new tent, and crawl into an old, well-used one.  Something about being in the outdoors just makes me smile.
4.  Digital cameras are a sincere love of mine.  You gotta admit it beats having to spend tons of money to develop film. And I can delete and retake pictures where I look hideous.
5.  The hard times we’ve been through, because they've made me stronger and wiser, and it makes me appreciate the good times even better.

What are things you're grateful for?  Why are you grateful for them?  Come on, respond everyone!

Birthday Parties and Playlists

My 30th birthday party is on Saturday and I made a playlist for the party, but while I was making it I thought why not make it a combined playlist for Keith that has a lot of ‘our songs’ on it?  Songs that remind me of him, songs that we both enjoy, and a few ‘party’ songs.  I am not completely sure that it qualifies as the nice thing for Keith this month, but I think that doing the dishes since pretty much since we’ve moved in counts.  I don’t think he’s really filled or washed dishes at all in the past 3 weeks.  He may have emptied, but not filled, and since I haven’t ever complained about it it counts, right?  Right?  *Sigh, fine, maybe not.  Guess I need to come up with a nice thing to do for Keith for this month.

Here is the play list, in case anyone is interested in what I put on the CD’s and playlist.  I already downloaded it onto Keith’s phone.  :)

Thankfulness

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

As you know expressing Thankfulness is my number one goal.  I've decided that I will make a list each week of things I am Thankful for.

1.) I am Thankful for family and friends.  Even though they know everything there is to know about you, they still love you.
2.) I am Thankful for the sunrise each day.  It's a sign of beginnings, a new day to make choices and to learn and grow as individuals.
3.) I am Thankful for the earth.  Everything we need to survive is at our fingertips, we just need to remember how to use it.  I am Thankful for plants to eat, for air to breathe, clean water to drink, and being able to afford to buy all the food I need and not have to grow it myself.  (Not sure the not having to grow it myself is actually a blessing and not a curse.....thoughts??)
4.) I am Thankful for a comfortable place to live.  There are many others right now, worldwide, that don't have homes, that don't have beds and blankets and a roof over their heads.  I am very very thankful that I do.
5.) I am Thankful for simple living.  One of my goals is going back to a simpler, more natural and homemade lifestyle.  Eating organic foods, less meat (do we need to eat meat with every meal?), more fruits/vegetables, and more whole grains.  Just simplify, organize, and cut out all the junk.  I want to be do more crafts and make things myself, not store buy every little thing.  I guess just go back to the basics.  More needs, less wants, with a few exceptions.  :D

Butternut Squash and Tomato Soup Recipe

Ingredients
2 tbsp. butter
1 medium onion, peeled and chopped
1/2 large butternut squash, seeded, peeled and cubed (about 3-4 cups)
2 ribs celery, sliced
1 (32-oz.) container reduced-sodium chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
1 (28-oz.) can crushed tomatoes (or two 14.5 oz cans petite diced tomatoes)
1/2 cup Julienne Cut Sun-Dried Tomatoes
1½ tsp. dried basil
Directions
Prep: 20 minutes Cook: 1 hour Serves: 8

1. Melt butter in a large stockpot. Add onion and squash; sauté over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Add celery and cook for 5 minutes more.
2. Add stock and both kinds of tomatoes to pot and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 35 minutes.
3. Let mixture cool slightly; transfer to a blender container and puree until smooth. (Or use a stick blender to puree directly in the pot.) Return to pot and add basil, salt and pepper; simmer for 10 minutes more.

Makes 8 servings. Only 3 points....but who's counting?
Alright, alright, here's the nutritional breakdown.

Nutritional Information:
Nutrition per serving: 170 calories, 7 g protein, 4.5 g total fat (2 g sat.), 28 g carbohydrate, 5 g fiber, 6 g sugar, 10 mg cholesterol, 420 mg sodium.

30 for 5 days, and counting....

So, I finished one book, the Work and the Glory #9.  I am almost done with Savor the Moment, and I have Healthy at 100 on my counter.  I normally read pretty fast, but it seems that once you move into a new apartment you have to actually like organize, and decorate, and clean and do laundry and stuff.  Whoda thought?  *sigh

I am doing alright on the eating healthy, but since I don't own a scale, its hard to say what my actual weight loss is.  Guess I should buy one??  I was going to try to judge off clothes size and fit, but maybe that's cheating?  What are your thoughts?  Oh, I made this awesomely awesome butternut squash and tomato soup last night for dinner.  It's amazingness in a bowl.  I'll be sure to post it later, hopefully with a picture!

Exercise - well, lets just say I suck and call it good.  Lol, I really need to do the Tuesday, Thursday and either Saturday or Sunday thing, and I need to just 'man-up' and make Keith get out of bed too!  He says he wants to go, but once he says 'I'm too tired' then I lay back down too...just for a minute of course....and then its too late!  AHHH.  Okay, tomorrow morning it is!  No slacking off.

Guess I better get back to work.  Please feel free to share this blog link with your other friends, etc.  The more people that comment and talk to me, the more motivated I feel!

Jen's 33 by 33

33 by 33

With my 30th birthday just around the corner (how on earth is that possible??) there are a few things that I would like to accomplish. I wouldn’t exactly call this a ‘Bucket List’ more like a reminder of things and a motivator so that I don’t forget what’s important. Goals change as people change, but these are things I have had on my ‘to do’ list for, well, forever. I know that Keith and I are just moving into an apartment, and that we have goals in regard to starting a family and possibly a home purchase, those aren’t the types of goals I am talking about. These are more personal. These are things that I want to do for myself, my family, and my marriage.

1.) Be Thankful. I want to make a conscious effort to be always thankful for what I have.
2.) Be in the Here and Now. Far too often I find myself sitting and planning for the future, the what-ifs, and running 100 miles an hour, even if there isn’t a reason too. I need to be more focused on Keith, my family, and friends when I am with them, and not thinking about the future. I think it is okay to plan ahead and to be prepared, but not at the expense of time with my family or not being happy with what I have right now.
3.) Lose 40 lbs. Yes, you heard me right. I am going to accomplish this through regular exercise and hopefully with the help of Weight Watchers. (This is your queue to laugh, roll your eyes, and shake your head knowingly.) However, I do intend to follow through with this plan – so, I’ll be the one laughing in the end. :D
4.) Start eating right. This is MUCH easier to do when you live on your own and not with other family members. (No offense to the other family members). I am a menu writer and shopping planner. When you have a menu and know what you need to buy it’s much easier to buy healthy and eat healthy than it is to walk through a grocery store looking at what ‘looks good’. It also saves money because you aren’t running back to the grocery store for items you ‘forgot’ or weren’t planning on needing.
5.) Become debt free. This includes credit cards, loans, and cars.
6.) Start scrapbooking more, or making photo books, or both. I have a few, both scrapbooks and photo books, but there are a few things (such as my wedding and Keith’s California Mission trip) that I have yet to start – or finish scrapbooking.
7.) Keep a Journal. I am very good at journal keeping in small doses. I’ll be excellent at writing my thoughts, feelings, and just writing about my life for a few days, weeks, or even months. Then, slowly, but inevitably my entries get further and further apart. Then, before I know it it has been 3 months, 6 months, or a year before I realize that I haven’t written anything….and playing Journal catch up sucks. I want my ancestors to know about me, our generation, our government, our lives, hardships, and accomplishments. I want them to be able to tell stories about us to their children, and their children’s children. How will they know about us if we don’t write things down?
8.) Skydive. Yes, you heard me, skydive. Keith went skydiving when we were in Texas with Justine White (a friend of ours) in 2009, but I didn’t get to go. Yes, didn’t ‘get’ to go. I plan on going sometime in 2011. Hopefully this actually works out.
9.) Run a 5k. I think this will take time to train for. In order to train for a running a 5k, when you are not currently a runner, you're supposed to start slow. I am going to give myself until Thanksgiving to accomplish this goal.
10.) Buy gold and silver, bullion and coins. This is an investment for our future. Never know what’s going to happen to paper currency.
11.) Refurbish furniture. I have this strange little crafty streak sometimes and lately I’ve been reading blogs and talking to people that go to places like Salvation Army, DI, and Goodwill and purchase these old decrepit, unloved pieces of furniture and they sand them, replace the hardware and they paint and/or glaze them and they come out looking incredible. Best of all it’s cheap! I want to try it! I think it would be awesome to buy a buffet or serving table or an old dresser or something and work some magic on it. Wouldn’t that be fun!?

Just so you know, this list is a lot harder to think up than you would think.

12.) I want to read 150 books, on various subjects. Not just my normal historical fiction, romance, mystery, fantasy, or whatever, though those are okay too, I want to read books that I will learn things from. Things such as other religions, cultures, or occupations. Self-help books, spiritual books, all sorts of things. I’ll have to keep a log somewhere of what I read. Suggestions anyone?
13.) Do something nice/romantic for Keith once a month. My plan is to keep the spark and fire alive in our marriage, yes people, we’re doing just fine. :0) I just know that once a couple, even one that’s been together for almost 9 years like we have, has a child (no, no announcements) that relationships often become strained. This is often due to a lack of communication, exhaustion, and a huge life adjustment. I don’t want this to happen to us, so, my answer…..do something at least once a month to keep the spark in the marriage. Breakfast in bed, being more appreciative of what he does/puts up with for me, making small gifts, etc. I’m not exactly sure what this will entail, but I’ll start with the thought and work it out from there. If this is an ingrained pattern I hope that it will continue long after we decide to have a baby. I will post (if appropriate :D) what I do for Keith on this blog.
14.) Bake a multi-layer cake with fondant and everything.
15.) Read (and study) the Bible.
16.) Travel more. Inside the US I’d love to go to; Savannah, New Orleans (not on a work trip), Boston, New York, Chicago (not on a work trip), Seattle, Portland, and back to Cedar City for a visit.
17.) Travel at least one place outside the US I’d love to go to; Italy, Spain, Ireland, England, Israel and Jordan, Africa (Victoria Falls), The Great Barrier Reef, Costa Rica, Egypt (no, not now!!!), Greece, Macchu Picchu, and maybe France.
18.) Take dance lessons with Keith again. We did it briefly for our wedding, but due to unforeseen circumstances (my shoes getting stuck in my dress) we weren’t able to use anything we learned. It’s fun though to spend time together on something like that.
19.) Design and customize a nursery for our kids, if we ever have any.
20.) Go to Horse Races again, hang out and have fun.
21.) See Aerosmith in Concert, if they ever tour again.
22.) Learn archery with a compound bow.
23.) Become an excellent marksman (markswoman?) and take self-defense courses. Purchase a few more guns/ammo. You never know when you’ll need protection.
24.) Learn to golf, well, and actually hit the ball over 50 yards consistently.
25.) Become fluent in Spanish, learn Italian.
26.) Learn to scuba dive and become certified….then dive on a shipwreck somewhere. How totally awesome would that be?? Titanic here we come.
27.) Become a Photoshop Master, take more pictures of everything!
28.) Learn everything about becoming self-sustaining. Gardening, candle making, soap making, solar power, outdoor survival, fishing, hunting, backpacking, etc.
29.) Watch more foreign and independent films; Amelie, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, etc.
30.) Volunteer – Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Church, Red Cross, etc.
31.) Start painting. Acrylic or Oil, something.
32.) Learn more about politics and become more involved.
33.) Have children, love, adore, and take care of my family.
